“A lot of kids, especially those at-risk, don’t participate in sports because of the expense and lack of opportunities,” said Lauryn Williams, World Champion sprinter and two-time U.S. Olympian.

A Saucony Run For Good grant in Williams’ name will be designated to support community-based track and field programs specifically for girls. “Playing sports as a girl gave me self-esteem and pride in myself while teaching me the value of hard work. This grant will allow many other girls to realize the benefits that I was so fortunate to experience,” said Lauryn, one of the fastest women in the world.

When it comes to inspiring kids to get off the couch, 2008 Olympic sprinter and Saucony athlete Wallace Spearmon, Jr. is at the front of the pack. The Saucony Run For Good Foundation will award a bi-annual grant in Wallace’s name to community track and field programs for youth.

Wallace awarded the first grant in his name to Boston-based Youth Enrichment Services (YES) to support a year-round, inter-neighborhood track and field program that will reach out to more than 1,500 inner-city youth participants.

Our Making Strides with Kids program was a tremendous success this spring. Due to the grant, we were able to fund running shoes for 80 children at a local elementary school. We are very pleased by how active our children have become. Our activities center is in use virtually 365 days a year. The wellness activities supported by the Foundation have improved our children’s fitness and their quality of life.

Cabot County Cruisers
Cabot, AR

As childhood obesity statistics rise, I love knowing that in my small city, kids are learning about health and nutrition, and that exercise is becoming a fun part of every day. While we were making progress on our own, the grant has allowed us to expand in so many ways. I know that we are impacting the lives of these children and their families … and we are setting an example for the state of Arkansas.
